Food for Fines

In celebration of the 2011 Lifelong Learning Week: Food for Thought, Monroe County Public Library will offer Food for Fines, Saturday, September 10 through Sunday, September 18, during library hours. Food for Fines allows library patrons to erase library fines on overdue materials and to reach out to neighbors in need. For each item of non-perishable food a patron donates at second-floor checkout or at the Ellettsville Branch, the library will take $1.00 off that patron’s fine. Donated food will go to Hoosier Hills Food Bank,, a United Way Agency providing food to 100 nonprofit area agencies. The library also welcomes and encourages donations of non-perishable food from those who have no fines, but who want to join this opportunity to help all members of our community thrive.
